Now that you have been on campus for over a month, you might be wondering how you can enjoy your first semester on campus.  There are three easy tips that you should follow to get the most out of your first semester.

First, get involved.  You may have already been to a club meeting or been practicing for a sport.  However, there are a number of events always going on around your campus.  Check your college’s online announcements and your email for invitations to free events such as concerts, movies and more.  Best of all, these free events are a great way to save some cash!

Second, make time for friends.  Anyone living on campus is bound to have met a large group of friends!   Make sure that you take a few minutes away from studying and spend some time with your friends.  After all, once you are out of college you will have plenty of fun memories to look back on.  Plus, your friends can be a great way to blow off some steam after a long day in class or a great way to get involved on campus.

Third, make sure you are staying up with your classes.  You want to spend a little bit of time studying with all of the fun things that are going on around campus.  After all, if all you are doing is going to parties and having fun you might not have the grades to come back next semester!

Making new friends on campus is easy for some students.  However, for those students who have yet to become social butterflies there are three easy tips that you need to remember to find plenty of friends this fall.

#1) Make sure that you are open to trying new things.  You will meet new people all the time in your first few weeks on campus.  Make sure that you aren’t mean to them and say whats up when you see them.  It might be hard to remember names but try your best.  You will get to see hundreds of people in just a few short weeks.  Make sure that you are open to trying new things and exciting opportunities/friendships will literally jump into your lap.

#2) Keep your door open.  No one is going to come into your door room if your door is closed.  The only time your door should be closed is if you are changing your clothes or using the bathroom.  Otherwise, keep your door open and people will literally stream into your room.  Best of all, you can just walk into anyone else’s room too.  Great way to meet new people and extremely easy to do.

#3) Go to parties.  You do not even have to drink at parties in order to have fun.  While many frat parties may seem exclusive, smaller schools tend to allow everyone to stop by.  You don’t have to drink and there is often music and food that you can enjoy.  It is a great way to meet people and blow off some steam after a long week of class.

College students are returning to campus in the next several weeks. Many students are returning to campus and there are many students who are going to be on campus for the first time. Students should take advantage of several tips and tricks in order to save money as well as time.

#1) Students should always eat off their meal plan when possible. You already paid for your meal plan! Why not take advantage of the food that you already paid for and save your money for something else. I know several students who spend hundreds of dollars eating off campus every month. Do you really want your entertainment and fun money going towards constantly paying for food off campus? Didn’t think so!

#2) Students should check out the back to school deals. There are a number of great buys that students can find at their local stores. Whether you are looking for a microwave or just want some cool clothes, make sure to check out the back to school deals. Also, don’t forget to visit the stores Facebook page before heading in. You might find another cool coupon.

#3) Students shouldn’t spend all their time on one activity. Make sure that you set aside time for fun and relaxation this semester. College is an experience and you want to ensure that you can make the most of it. Students who do not have a balanced schedule will not enough college nearly as much as students who have a balanced schedule.  Also, get involved on campus!  Everyone loves having a good time at football games, basketball games and parties.

#4) Freshman, seriously do not drink too much.  There are several reasons why you shouldn’t beside the fact that it is illegal and expensive.  Do you like paying for $600 rides to the hospital?  Yea, didn’t think so!  Keep it in moderation and you’ll have a great first semester!

FASFA Time

February 19th, 2010

While it is nearing the end of February, it does not mean that the time to submit the FASFA has ended. However, if you have not yet started your FASFA, do so now!

You want to start your FASFA as soon as possible to get as much Free Federal Student Aid as possible. If you do not have your taxes done, it is fine to use estimated information and edit later. However, do not delay, submit your FASFA today. Even if you do not qualify for anything other than student loans, please submit the FASFA for your student.

You might be eligible this year for subsidized student loans, which means that the government will pay the interest on them while you are in school. This is an excellent service, and well worth it if the government offers.
